All on 4 Step by Step

This article will describe the All on 4 procedure step by step.

Having a beautiful set of teeth is something that almost everyone wants. With the All on 4 procedure people with missing teeth can restore that sparkling smile. All on 4 is a type of dental implant surgery that is less invasive than previous implants.

Benefits

The All on 4 procedure has become the best solution to restoring full arches to the upper and lower jaws. This can sound intimidating and as though it requires a lot of work, however that isn’t the case.

It is called All on 4 because only four implants are needed to secure both sets of arches into the jaw. Two implants are on the top and two on the bottom.

Most people who are turned down for other implants wouldn’t have enough jaw bone left after bone grafting. All on 4 doesn’t require bone grafting the majority of the time. This is great news for everyone who has ever been denied.

The Build Up

The first step towards receiving your new teeth is a consultation and diagnostic appointment with the dentist so he can fully evaluate your particular case. X-rays and photos will be taken and the dentist will decide whether there needs to be any extractions first.

Impressions will be needed to create the arches for the top and bottom jaw. After this appointment you will be scheduled for implant surgery where the replacement teeth will be fitted and adjusted.

Surgery Day

On surgery day four titanium implants will be placed into the jaw bone so it can integrate with the bone and secure itself. The back implants are angled for a deeper hold making these implants as firm as a natural set of teeth.

After the implants are secure the abutments are fastened in to and attach to the arches of, usually, porcelain teeth. You will walk out with a full set of beautiful teeth that day!

Maintenance

At first frequent checkups are required just to ensure that the gums have healed properly. Once the dentist feels that they have healed fine than the usual twice a year appointments are all that is needed.

Your new set of teeth will act just like your natural ones. They still need to be brushed, flossed, and taken care of like a natural set. Other than that there isn’t any extra maintenance. If you take care of your new smile it can last a lifetime.

How All on 4’s are Made

This article will describe how the All on 4’s are made and placed to keep them so durable.

For many years the easiest solution to tooth loss was dentures. Dentures are not known for their durability and even make eating certain food nearly impossible. Then All-on-4 implants arrived and are just as durable as normal teeth.  Technology truly has advanced, but what makes these implants so durable and comfortable?

Material

These implants are made of titanium which is a light but durable metal. For example, most aircrafts, missiles, golf clubs, and even body piercings are made of titanium.  All of those objects need to be exceptionally durable to function properly.

Titanium is the reason that All-On-4 implants practically last a lifetime and is comfortably light. Heavier metals would damage the bone in the jaw that holds the implant in place making it impossible to stay put.

Parts and Procedure

The reason for the name All-On-4 is that only four screws, know are roots are required for the placement of a full set of teeth. The implants are angled into the jaw bone for the firmest grip.  Four predetermined sites will receive the anchors or roots which will be inserted into the jaw bone and left alone to heal first.

During the healing phase the patient will have light weight dentures as a temporary solution. These dentures are designed to put minimal pressure on the treated area for a speedy healing process.

After the body has had time to fuse with the jaw bone and heal the surrounding tissue it will then receive the arch. There are two arches of the durable teeth, upper and bottom. The teeth themselves are made of porcelain while the framework is made of titanium.

Recovery

Once the arches are in place the procedure is over. Other then carefully following the directions of your Sun City dentist to ensure proper recovery there is no extra work required.

It is paramount to continue to brush and floss daily as you would with natural teeth. It is necessary to keep the two yearly appointments with your dentist for cleaning as well. Unless any new problems arise later down the road it won’t take any extra maintenance than natural teeth.

Overall just be sure to be truthful with your doctor during and after the procedure to ensure the best possible outcome with your All-on-4 implants.

Dental Myths Busted by Dental Implants Specialists in Phoenix, PART 4

This four-part article series sets about explaining and dispelling the many common myths and misconceptions surrounding oral health and hygiene and certain dental procedures.

Welcome to the final installment of our four-part article series in which we speak to dental implants specialists in Phoenix about the various myths and misconceptions surrounding oral health, hygiene and dental treatment. In our previous article post, it was explained that using toothpicks after a meal cannot widen the spaces between your teeth and that they should never take the place of brushing and flossing. The various causes of bad breath were also explored, revealing many more culprits than just poor oral hygiene. Now, in the final article installment of this series, we shall take a look at two final myths...

Myth # 7: If you’re pregnant, you should stay away from the dentist

Dental Implants Phoenix

The Facts: This myth is an especially dangerous one, since it’s vitally important that you get your teeth checked by the dentist when you’re pregnant! With all those fluctuating hormones, women are actually at a heightened risk of developing oral conditions, such as gingivitis and gum disease. By scheduling an appointment with your dentist at the beginning and towards the end of your pregnancy, you can keep your oral health in check, as well as get any existing or potential problems addressed in a timely manner.

“Preventative treatment for pregnant women is vitally important because some of the possible health problems caused by untreated gum disease is pre-term labour and low birth weight babies,” explain All On 4 implant specialists.

Myth # 8: Gum disease only affects your teeth and gums.

“What few people realize is that poor oral health and hygiene are closely linked with problems in other parts of the body,” say dental implant specialists in Phoenix. “Gum disease doesn’t only have implications for your teeth and gums; it’s a systemic disease, which means it affects your body as a whole and has ramifications for every organ. Patients are utterly shocked and surprised to learn of the whole-body consequences poor oral health has...”

The relationship between gum disease and osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high stroke risk, respiratory disease, kidney and liver disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and pregnancy complications are well documented in medical literature. In other words, not looking after your teeth properly can put your life at risk!

Myth # 9: Chewing gum is bad for your teeth

The Facts: “We actually encourage patients with problems such as dry mouth and gum disease to chew gum, as long as it’s sugar-free,” say All On 4 implant specialists. “Chewing gum stimulates the flow of saliva, which is your body’s natural defence against oral bacteria. Saliva also helps to wash away food debris and keeps your mouth nice and moist and comfortable. Just make sure that your choice in chewing gum is sugar-free and, if possible, contains Xylitol. This helps to neutralize acid in the mouth and remineralize your teeth after a meal or snack.”

One Last Myth: Whitening your teeth is bad for them

The Facts: “If used according to the directions, dental bleaching is not harmful to your teeth at all,” say dental implant specialists in Phoenix. “Follow the instructions, don’t overdo it and if you ever need any advice, speak to your dentist.”

Find Out How Successful Dental Implants Can Be

Dental implants largely depend on patients having good oral and general health; the All on 4 treatment has a great success rate and offers a number of advantages while restoring your teeth.

You can easily come across a number of long term studies indicating that successful implants will last for many years and often a lifetime. The success rate of dental implants is quite high; 95 percent of those whose implants are anchored to natural bone; while on the other hand, those patients who have had bone grafts before, the success rate is a bit lower - around 85-90 percent. The titanium that is usually used in implants is hardly ever discarded by the body and has never been found to have harmful effects on a patient.

All on 4
Dental implants largely depend on patients having good oral and general health; hence it is unlikely that dental implant work will be executed on a patient who has inadequate health. For instance, if you are a smoker, then it is a possibility that you are two and half times more likely to see your implants fail as compared to those who do not smoke.

Religiously maintaining meticulous oral hygiene during the period after implants surgery, also for the rest of your life, will certainly guarantee success of your implants done from professionals providing dental implants in Scottsdale. However, dental implants can fail if they are not fitted properly and an infection ensues. This is an extremely painful condition usually resulting in pus emission from the area of the implant.

All on 4 treatment has a great success rate. However, it is advisable to always discuss all aspects of obtaining dental implants in Scottsdale with the professionals who can counsel you and advice you of the risks of failure and the success rate so that you can make up your mind whether you wish to carry on with a dental implant procedure.

The All on 4 technique offers a number of advantages while restoring your teeth. Since All on 4 only uses four dental implants, it can be executed far quicker than traditional methods which might require 5-10 implants to be placed. This procedure is also a huge bonus because it entails far less surgery than when more implants are placed. Moreover, with All on 4, there is unlikely to be any requirement for bone grafting as well. If you are an All on 4 patient, then you can walk out of the surgery with your long-term set of teeth fixed on the same day itself as the entire implant work is completed. There is an overall reduction in the amount of time you will have to spend during the insertion of your dental implants; this is also a welcome advantage.

Dental implants in Scottsdale provide a particularly durable solution to your tooth loss. Removable dentures are too messy when you are eating and sometimes they tend to slip, as well. It further reduces your ability to actually chew food and over the course of time, they tend to wear away and you may need them replaced. On the contrary, the bridges used in All on 4 are very long lasting and can be treated just like your regular set of teeth.

A Look Under the Microscope at Dental Implants, Arizona

This article provides a close-up on dental implants and addresses questions including “what are they, how do they work and do they cause any pain?”

You, like many people, probably have the term ‘dental implant’ in your vocabulary. But if your dentist told you that one of your teeth had to be pulled and replaced with one of them, the gaps in your knowledge would begin to show! What IS a dental implant / all on 4 dental implant anyway? You know that they are used to replace missing teeth, but how do they work? And most of all, do they hurt?

Dental Implants: A Closer Look at the Hardware

Dental implant Arizona

You’re right; dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. But there’s quite a bit more to them than that. Dental implants consist of three separate components:

  • An artificial ‘root’, which is made from medical grade titanium; a very strong, lightweight and non-corrosive metal.
  • An abutment or ‘collar’
  • An artificial crown, constructed from high quality ceramic material.

The surgery required for the placement of dental implants involves the insertion of the titanium screw or ‘artificial root’ into the jaw bone at the location of the missing tooth. The dentist then affixes the abutment to the top of the screw, before attaching a temporary porcelain crown. In other words, once the procedure has been concluded your missing tooth will be completely replaced!

What you can expect from Your Dental Implant

Dental implants generally take a couple of weeks to heal. During this time, your jaw bone will actually be fusing with the titanium root of the implant in a very special process called ‘osseointegration.’ Thanks to this phenomenon, once healing is complete, the dental implant will be firmly planted in your jaw bone, just like the rest of your natural teeth! This is part of what makes dental implants so strong and able to withstand natural biting forces.

Dental implants in Arizona enable patients to eat most foods. There are certain things you’ll have to be wary of if you want to prevent damaging your ceramic crown, such as chewing ice or sticky sweets, but you should be avoiding these anyway. Otherwise, your dental implant will enable you to eat all the foods you love and to smile as much as you want!

After a set recovery period, you will need to return to the dentist to have your temporary crown replaced with a permanent crown. This will be fitted to facilitate a snug bite relationship between the lower and upper jaw. And that’s it!

Do Dental Implants Hurt?

Dental implant Arizona
Once they’ve healed, dental implants feel just like natural teeth. If they cause any pain or discomfort, there is something wrong and you should arrange an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. Anesthesia is generally used during the placement of dental implants, so the procedure shouldn’t hurt at all. There can be some post-operative swelling and discomfort in the days following surgery, but this is easily managed with the medications prescribed to you by your dentist.

Overall, any pain or discomfort associated with the placement of dental implants is totally manageable and should not be a cause for concern. If you are especially worried about this, speak to your dentist beforehand and they will go to additional measures to ensure that your experience is as pain and anxiety free as possible.

All on 4 Dental Implants: Say Hello to Your New Improved Smile!

"This article describes the benefits and advantages afforded by All-on-4 dental implants and the prosthesis attached to them."

If you have lost most of your original adult teeth to a chronic and acute oral condition, then say hello to a new and improved smile with All on 4 dental implants! Developed in the early 1990s by European implantologist Dr. Paulo Malo in collaboration with the world’s leading manufacturers of dental implants, Nobel Biocare, the All on 4 is a technique for oral rehabilitation that has gone on to revolutionize modern dentistry. The All on 4 is capable of unprecedented feats in the treatment of edentulous (not having a single original adult tooth left) and near-edentulous patients, making it the procedure recommended by dentists across the globe. So, what has set this dental implant technique apart from other surgical protocol and tooth replacement technologies? Let’s take a look!

All on 4

All on 4 Dental Implants: Bite Functionality and Smile Aesthetics

All on 4 dental implants offer patients unrivalled benefits for the support of natural bite functionality and for the correction of smile aesthetics:

  • All on 4 dental implants support a fully customized prosthetic dental bridge that is expertly fabricated to be virtually indistinguishable from a full set of natural healthy teeth.
  • The support of this bridge by dental implants ensures that it is, unlike dentures, non-removable. In other words, patients receive a full set of teeth that are permanently fixed in the mouth and cannot slip around or fall out.
  • The new teeth patients receive with the All on 4 are capable of supporting a natural bite force, enabling them to eat all the foods they love, but previously couldn’t manage with inferior tooth replacement technologies.
  • All on 4 bridges are fabricated from high quality durable materials to last decades without needing restoration or replacement.
  • All on 4 dental implants do not cause any pain, inflammation or irritation of the underlying soft tissue (the gums). So, unlike dentures, patients will not need to invest in anesthetic gels to make them more comfortable.
  • All on 4 dental implants do not (1) trigger the gag reflex, (2) impede taste ability or (3) feel uncomfortable.

All on 4 Dental Implants: Jaw Bone Health and Oral Vitality

Dental implants

In addition to the functional and cosmetic benefits afforded by All on 4 dental implants, this breakthrough tooth replacement technique also supports the long term health of the underlying jaw bone tissue. By transmitting all the forces associated with eating into the jaw bone – as is the case with natural teeth – dental implants play a fundamental role in preventing atrophy of this hard tissue. In doing so, the All on 4 delays the resorption of bone tissue by the way, thus preserving a patient’s natural youthful facial contours. This also means that, unlike removable dentures, patients won’t need to come back to the dentist every few years or so to have ill-fitting dentures re-made and re-fitted.

A Final Note on All on 4 Dental Implants

Tens of thousands of previously edentulous patients have had All on 4 dental implants placed and have only positive things to say about this revolutionary technique for oral rehabilitation. With confident smiles and a much improved quality of life, why opt for removable dentures when the All on 4 offers a far more sophisticated solution?
